The most popular leather we offer. Italian vegetable-tanned cowhide with a rich wax finish that develops a deep, beautiful patina the more you use it. Every scratch and mark becomes part of the story.

Badalassi Pueblo
From the same legendary Badalassi Carlo tannery in Tuscany that produces the Waxy and Minerva, Pueblo is a full-grain vegetable-tanned cowhide finished with a process unlike any other. Iron balls are rolled across the surface of the hide, creating a deliberately textured, matte finish with a lightly napped, almost suede-like feel. It looks worn from the moment you hold it — in the best possible way.
What makes Pueblo remarkable is how fast it moves. Where most veg-tan leathers take years to develop a patina, Pueblo begins transforming within weeks of regular handling. The rough texture smooths out over time, burnishing into a rich vintage sheen that deepens with every use. Scratches and scuffs don’t damage it — they add to its story. Available in an expansive range of earthy, saturated colors that develop even more depth as the leather ages.
Badalassi Carlo Minerva Pebbled
A fine-grain pebbled cowhide from the same Italian tannery as the Waxy. Softer and more supple right out of the box — the best choice if you want a Bible that lays completely flat from day one.

Alran Patina Sauvage Chevre
Patina Sauvage is Alran’s top-grade French goatskin, and the first thing you notice is the feel: soft, supple, and warm in the hand, with a slight natural shine. Tanned by a century-old tannery that supplies luxury houses, it is full aniline and dyed through, produced over four weeks in a 23-step process. Its slightly deeper pebbled grain carries a dark patina settled into the valleys, giving each hide an aged depth and gentle variation in tone. Strong and durable at 1.1mm, it is a rustic, lived-in leather that only grows richer with daily handling. Our lead times are going to be 15 weeks now

Siegel Vegetable Goat Pull Up
A vegetable-tanned goatskin made specifically for bookbinding. Its pull-up finish lightens where the leather flexes and scuffs, so every Bible picks up its own character with use. At 0.7–0.9mm it's thin enough to wrap beautifully without losing strength.

Every Byrd Bound Bible includes a soft lambskin leather liner stitched inside the cover flaps — completely independent from your cover leather. It's the first thing you see every time you open your Bible.
The lambskin liner is a finer, softer leather than your cover — chosen specifically for its supple hand and vibrant color options. It can match your cover for a classic look, or contrast it for a striking two-tone effect. Many customers coordinate their liner with one of their ribbon colors.
